Family reunification

Family life is one of the central values of Serbian society. Foreign citizens, just like citizens of the Republic of Serbia, have the opportunity to stay in Serbia with their loved ones.

To stay in Serbia for up to three years, you will need a long-stay visa, visa D, or a temporary residence permit. Family reunification is the basis that will enable you to apply for a visa or temporary residence permit, and get the opportunity to stay in Serbia with your family. The purpose of family reunification includes several closer bases. Choose the one that suits your life situation:

  • You want family reunification as the spouse of a citizen of Serbia;
  • You want family reunification as the spouse of a foreign citizen who has been granted temporary or permanent residence in the Republic of Serbia or has been granted asylum in the Republic of Serbia;
  • You are in an extramarital union with a citizen of Serbia or a foreign citizen who has been granted temporary or permanent residence in the Republic of Serbia or has been granted asylum in the Republic of Serbia;
  • You are a family member of a citizen of the Republic of Serbia or a foreign citizen who has been granted temporary or permanent residence in the Republic of Serbia or has been granted asylum in the Republic of Serbia.

Depending on which closer basis you chose for family reunification, the required documentation will also differ. Here you can find the list of required documents in case you are applying for a visa D. If you are applying for temporary residence on the basis of family reunification, you can find the required documentation here.

Adults who have an approved residence permit on the basis of family reunification automatically get the right to work in the Republic of Serbia.
