Safe oasis for citizens and tourists

One of the most important factors for traveling or moving to another country is the security situation in that country. Today, the world is in crisis, there are many global war hotspots, crime rates are growing, and climate change is having a significant impact on the increasingly frequent occurrence of catastrophic natural disasters. All this affects the decision-making process regarding whether someone will decide to move or spend a certain period in another country.

We can freely and rightfully say that the Republic of Serbia is currently a safe country that strives to maintain and even improve its level of security in times of great global challenges. The period of political and security instability in Serbia that is related to the end of the last century is behind us and the perception of Serbia regarding these issues is significantly different today than it was twenty or thirty years ago. Fear of escalation of violence, wars and terrorist attacks is low.

Low crime rate

Unfortunately, crime and misdemeanour are an inevitable part of life. There is not a place in the world that is absolutely safe. However, some areas are safer than others. Serbia can be proud of a low crime rate compared to most countries in the world. Moreover, the Republic of Serbia is rated as a less dangerous place to live than even some of the more developed European countries, and especially than the United States of America, Latin America, a large part of Asia and entire Africa. The low crime rate and, consequently, a high general safety index, allow us to guarantee a safe stay in our country to all foreign citizens who want to move to Serbia or visit it as a tourist.

Safety in Belgrade and other large cities

It is especially important to emphasize that even the largest Serbian cities: Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš and Kragujevac are listed as extremely safe cities. Belgrade, as a million city, is the most attractive tourist destination in the Republic of Serbia. Also, in recent years, Belgrade has become a real magnet for people from abroad who are looking for a high quality, affordable and peaceful place for a family life. Like every metropolis, Belgrade has its challenges with crime. Still, the the crime rate index is low. Moreover, Belgrade is significantly safer than many big cities such as New York, London, Paris, and even Stockholm, which is usually considered one of the world's safest capitals. It should also be noted that Belgrade has no prohibited neighbourhoods (so-called no-go zones). Maybe not all parts of Belgrade are aesthetically pleasing, but both residents and tourists can feel at peace in all parts of the city both during the day and at night.

Gentle nature in the Republic of Serbia

Due to geographical and climatic factors, many areas on earth are quite inhospitable and dangerous for life, and it can be extremely difficult for people who come to these areas to get used to them. The risk of natural disasters such as devastating earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, fires and floods is not a negligible factor when choosing a location to live.

The geographical position of Serbia is such that it has brought about numerous problems throughout its history. The capital, Belgrade, was razed to the ground 44 times and rebuilt. Apart from being a strategic location "between East and West", the reason why Belgrade and these areas have always been attractive to numerous civilizations is the favourable living conditions. Summers in Belgrade and the Republic of Serbia are hot, but not unbearable. Winters can be harsh, but will most likely include merely a few days with below zero temperatures. Although the Republic of Serbia is located in a seismic fragile area, the risk of a devastating earthquake is almost zero. Volcanic activity is something you certainly won't have to worry about while in Serbia. The fear of massive floods and fires has increased due to climate change everywhere in the world, and we can say that precautions are needed on the banks of rivers during the spring months and in forest areas during the hottest days of summer.

Nevertheless, according to the natural disasters risk assessment, Serbia is among the countries with the lowest index.
