What should an environment have in order for it to be considered fit for family life? It depends on whom you ask. For some, it is important to have as much content and quality infrastructure as possible, for others, peace and quiet far from the hustle and bustle of the city. For others, both are equally important. We believe that Serbia offers enough reasons for a fulfilling, comfortable and happy life for all family members. This applies equally to all foreign citizens who reside here and whom the Republic of Serbia enables to be together with their families.
Traditionally, Serbian people are strongly oriented towards family values. As a country of rich cultural heritage and tradition, these values are often transferred to family life as well. Families in Serbia often cherish traditional values such as respect for the elderly, togetherness, and solidarity. These values are passed down from generation to generation and form the basis of strong family ties. For this reason, it can be said that the relationship of the state of Serbia towards its citizens is designed to satisfy all important aspects of family life, equally for the youngest and oldest members of society. Through the Friend of the Family 2023 project, the Republic of Serbia has raised awareness of the importance of connecting work and parenthood and creating a work environment where employees will have the opportunity to give their best, while at the same time maintaining a balance between work and time spent with family.
From an extensive network of public and private kindergartens, through high-quality primary and secondary education, all the way to prestigious higher education institutions, the Republic of Serbia enables children and the youth to grow into educated and mature adults. Also, especially as of recently, the system of international schools that provide teaching in foreign languages for children of foreign citizens has been increasingly developing. Traditionally, Serbia nurtures its higher education system, striving to meet the highest global quality standards and be affordable at the same time. Great attention is paid to aligning with the significant changes taking place in the labour market.
Sport is an important part of the identity of the people in this region. It is often heard that Serbia is a sports nation, and the results of our national teams and clubs at international competitions certainly confirm this. However, sport is not only viewed here in a competitive sense, but also as an essential part of health development, as well as a hobby. In Serbia, you will come across a large number of sports centres, stadiums and swimming pools throughout the country. In addition, almost every city district has courts for basketball, futsal or volleyball where people of different generations play together. These spaces are ideal for family activities because they strengthen the collective spirit and bring people together.
Additionally, throughout the year, there are many cultural events, festivals and happenings being organized in Serbia that are suitable for family activities. Whether you want to spend time in nature, explore cultural sights or enjoy leisure time, Serbia offers enough for each family member. Since 2023, Family Days. have been taking place in Belgrade. This manifestation serves to promote family unity, Serbian culture, tradition, and history.
Another important aspect that makes Serbia a family-friendly environment is the sense of safety of its residents. A low crime rate, and a high safety index give us the right to say that Serbia is a safe country. The phenomenon of “prohibited districts” or “no-go zones” is a frequent occurrence in large cities around the world, and even in those that are considered highly developed and safe. Although you may not like every neighbourhood in big cities in Serbia equally, you and your family members can feel safe in each of them.
