Balanced lifestyle

A balance between working time and quality rest is the need of a modern person. Serbia is a country that, through several crucial aspects, keeps the life of its citizens in balance. Due to this fact, Serbia attracts an increasing number of foreign citizens. This trend is not only noticeable among tourists, but also among those who want to move to Serbia temporarily or even permanently. Additionally, recently there has been an increasing number of returnees from the diaspora - those who moved away decades ago and are now looking to return. In this article, we explore what a balanced lifestyle in Serbia entails and what you can expect if you decide to come to Serbia.

Culture

Serbia is proud of its long tradition and culture that is nurtured and passed down through the generations. We can freely say that a significant part of Serbian culture stems from our attitude towards life, people and socializing. In Serbia, work is highly valued, but the focus on quality time spent unwinding is just as important, if not more important than work itself. Traditionally, Serbians are friendly people who spend most of their time with their families, friends and acquaintances. The culture of celebrating important dates together is widespread. Whether it's weddings, birthdays, religious or national holidays, these events are usually lavish and gather large groups of people. A distinctive motif of Serbian folklore is the Patron Saint’s Day (Slava), the celebration by which families, in the circle of friends and relatives, mark the day of their patron saint. Also, daily informal gatherings are a significant factor in the lives of people in this area, whether on weekends or weekdays.

Vacation time guaranteed by law

The Labour Law in Serbia prescribes a minimum of 20 vacation days for employed individuals. It is important to note that many companies stipulate additional vacation days in their collective agreements. The number of vacation days may increase depending on several factors such as: length of service (years), professional qualification, complexity of work, or number of children the employee has. Also, the practice of unlimited vacation is being increasingly practiced, especially in companies in the field of information technologies. In addition to the guaranteed vacation, in Serbia there is a significant number of non-working days during national and religious holidays. You can find a list of all non-working days for the current year here.

All employees in Serbia have the right to paid sick leave in the ratio of a minimum of 65% of the average salary in the previous three months. Serbia also has one of the most favourable legal provisions in the world for pregnancy and maternity leave. Pregnancy leave is approved by the selected doctor in case of complicated pregnancies on which the usual work responsibilities could have a harmful effect. During pregnancy leave, employed pregnant women receive financial compensation at the expense of the state. Maternity leave together with child care leave lasts for one year and is fully paid. For the third and each subsequent child, mothers receive two years of maternity leave. It should be noted that the law in Serbia also allows fathers to use paternity leave.

Proximity and accessibility of various content

The third factor that affects the well-being of life in Serbia stems from the variety of content and its accessibility. Territorially, Serbia can be considered a small country. A good road network allows you to travel from the far north to the southern border in just five hours by highway. The largest cities, Belgrade and Novi Sad, are particularly well located, offering their residents plenty of diverse and high-quality content both within those cities and within a two-hour drive. Living in smaller cities, towns and villages also offers many advantages. You get all the advantages of small environments such as peace, quiet and simplicity and at the same time you are very close to all the big cities which will satisfy some of your other needs.

Whether you are interested in a rich cultural offer, exploring gastronomic secrets, getting to know the local cultural heritage or just vacationing and connecting with nature, in Serbia you will find plenty of content that positively affects the quality of life. Digitalization of public and private services

As in the 21st century time has become a more precious resource than ever in history, so has the need to save it. Serbia can be proud of an enviably high level of digitalization of public and private services. These changes have shortened the number of bureaucratic steps, simplified the user experience and drastically reduced the time that citizens need to regulate their obligations and satisfy their needs. Electronic services such as the Electronic Identification Portal,eGovernment,eCadastre,eTax,Serbian Business Registers Agency or our portal enable the citizens of Serbia and all its visitors to use their precious time in a more productive and fulfilling way.
